    What’s one movie, book or other form of entertainment you love, that no one else can seem to understand why you love it?

    I really liked the 2008 Speed Racer movie

    to me it translated the cheapness of the cartoon into a movie by making scene elements slowly pan around the screen like flat cel layers. They adapted the rigid format of the camera angles from the old cartoon in a super-accurate way, but inserted weird scene transitions between the shots. It ends up looking like a bloated collage that includes kung-fu jumping cars and explosions. The “racing” just looks like a crappy videogame that culminates into a too on-the-nose visual orgasm metaphor for reaching the finish line.

    That sounds like I hate it but I think those are the elements that made it a really fun stupid movie.

    look at that guy punch a flying upside-down viking. that was in a real movie. i just can’t hate this
